Data and statistics are increasingly vital on the global stage, driving growth and influencing diplomacy. In the CARICOM region, the value of reliable statistics has been recognized since 1974 with the establishment of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) to support good governance and accountability.
Over the years, CARICOM has made significant progress in developing statistical frameworks and regional cooperation to meet growing demands for social, economic, and environmental data—key for initiatives like the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Despite advancements, challenges remain, including data gaps, resource constraints, and the need for stronger advocacy and regional collaboration. Continued investment, technology adoption, and partnership building are essential to improve data quality and support evidence-based decision-making across the Caribbean.
